Expected for almost two years, the release of the new James Bond “can die waiting”, the franchise should confirm its place as a money machine in the world of cinema. Due to the pandemic, MGM had to address this doubt. This is the final installment in the saga featuring Daniel Craig as 007 and die-hard fans as well as casual viewers in need of a dark room will not want to miss it. Created in the 1950s by Englishman Ian Fleming, the 25th spy adventure with License to Kill certainly has its share of racing cars, explosions, humor and glamor.
Since the cinematographic exploitation, the saga has been successful. Despite having few memorable villains, it is one of the more profitable franchises in cinema history than Star Wars or Harry Potter. In the audience, Bond has been seen equally as one of two men since his first appearance on screen. As the expenses crescendo, however, they continue to inflate the revenues of MGM, which generates them.
Star wish
Actor Daniel Craig is largely responsible for this windfall. With four films since Casino Royale in 2006, he has grossed nearly $7 billion. A spy of Her Majesty’s Secret Service, dressed in plainclothes, gave him the freedom to negotiate this final appearance. His stamp is worth 25 million euros. If we are dealing with a total production budget of 250 million euros, it is only 10%. For the American studio, the costly operation delayed by the health crisis has left a hole in the coffers, especially complicating production assignments on the film.
