Telecom wants to avoid future power outages

As France prepares for a worst-case energy scenario, telecom operators want to make sure they don’t pay the price. According to our information, this sector has been the seat of multiple administrations for months to avoid any future power outages. After sending a first letter in February (even before the fateful date of the 24th, which marks the Russian attack on Ukrainian soil), the French Federation of Telecom (FFT) has in recent days stepped up its dialogue with all the players concerned. : Energy Regulation Commission, General Directorate for Energy and Climate, General Directorate for Enterprise etc.

The reason is simple. For most manufacturers, energy has become a major concern for operators since the beginning of the year. On the one hand, fixed and mobile network bills are rising as electricity prices rise, eating into lower margins in the sector. On the other hand, the possibility of occasional outages gives operators a cold sweat. “Load shedding worries us much more than rising electricity prices,” explains Michel Combot, general manager of FFT.
